Abstract
When thermally etched silver is heated in vacuum the facets rearrange by surface diffusion. The initial stages of this process have been followed by examining decorated replicas in an electron microscope. As the temperature is raised both {100} and {111} planes commence to roughen near complex facets, and at higher temperatures the planes roughen homogeneously. Generally {111} planes are found to be more stable than {100} planes. Keywords
