Abstract
Five elderly patients, disabled by recurrent episodes of bradycardia and supraventricular tachycardia, have been successfully treated with combined permanent demand ventricular pacing and cardiac drugs as indicated. Recurrent episodes of bradycardia and asystole have been totally eliminated and supraventricular tachycardia has not recurred as long as the patients have continued their medication. Case histories and electrocardiograms of the patients are presented and the electrophysiology is discussed. The medical and economic benefits derived from the prompt application of this form of therapy is emphasized. Keywords
