Abstract
The article discusses job preferences of white collar and blue collar workers. The author notes a trend in interest among researchers on various aspects of occupational stratification, citing the comparison of values attached to various aspects of work by white collar and blue collar workers as a recurring theme. Differences in attitudes and behavior are focused on. Research finds that white collar workers are more concerned about intrinsic values which emanate from the work itself, such as a job be considered important and gives a feeling of accomplishment, whereas blue collar workers are more concerned with the “extrinsic” components of a job, such as its accompanying economic rewards or promotional opportunities.
