Abstract
Design criteria for single-slice positron emission computed tomography systems have been extensively discussed in the literature. We wish to extend the current methodology and suggest some additional tools for optimizing the design of multi-slice tomographic systems. Practical results using Bismuth Germanate coincidence detectors are shown. The effect of shielding design on overall system performance is evaluated with the help of a simple graphical technique. Keywords
