Abstract
Oscillator strengths for the lowest 1P transitions in Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba calculated from modest multi-configuration Hartree-Fock wavefunctions are reported. The authors values agree with experimental data within 10%, and show that the correlation between the valence electrons is far more important than the correlation due to the core polarization recently reported by Hameed (see abstr. A31662 of 1972).Keywords
