Abstract
The elastic displacement of screw dislocations bounding the lamellar grains is of the correct order of magnitude to account for the observed elasticity of reactor grade graphite. The change of elastic modulus on irradiation cannot be explained in terms of the pinning of these or of other dislocations by the clusters observed in irradiated single crystals. The pinning is attributed to a population of smaller clusters in the grain boundaries. The fall of elastic modulus at higher irradiation is attributed to vacancies. Keywords
