Abstract
This study examined the sense of “realness” associated with soap operas by analyzing the characteristics of form represented in its particular aesthetic manipulations of auditory and visual elements. Patterns identified in the compositional structure of the soap opera were proposed to be compositional conventions characterizing the genre. Aesthetic qualities associated with these characteristics were found to reflect the kind of aesthetic intensification associated with the televisual interpretation of a live event. Keywords
