Abstract
Perceiver sex and expressor sex effects on cognitive perception were investigated. Male and female college students watched videotaped sessions of male and female expressors. Each expressor talked for three minutes about each of three prescribed subject areas. Perceivers then reacted to a semantic differential as they thought the expressors had previously reacted. Absolute difference scores were established for each perceiver-expressor combination indicating level of cognitive perception accuracy. Analysis of effects of the variables was made by use of a two factor analysis of variance. Expressor sex was found to have a significant effect. Implications were discussed regarding effects of expressor sex on person perception and the potential for differential approach to the sexes in the helping professions. Keywords
