Abstract
A technique was devised for obtaining rate laws and kinetic parameters which describe the thermal degradation of plastics from thermogravimetric analysis data. The method is based on the intercomparison of experiments which were performed at different linear rates of temperature rise. The method was applied to a fiberglass reinforced phenol-formaldehyde resin. The kinetic equation that was thus derived was checked by a variety of techniques, including a comparison with constant temperature data that were available in the literature. The tests indicated that the equation was applicable to a major part of the degradation process. Keywords
