Abstract
In experiments with guinea pigs, the authors confirmed previous reports that d , l-thyroxine inhibited the uptake of I131 as well as the release of thyroid hormone. The administration of Nal inhibited the uptake of I131 but even in large doses did not inhibit the release of endogenously labelled hormone. The authors beleive that iodide acts by blocking a local process of thyroid function. This effect is completely unlike the effect exerted by thyroxine which is presumably mediated through the hypophysis. Keywords
