Abstract
TRENDS State Medical Associations The trend among state medical associations to require continuing medical education (CME) as a condition of membership continues but at a slower rate. As of Aug 1, 1976, a total of 14 state associations reported policy decisions that could be interpreted as requiring CME as a condition of membership. One year later there are 14 state medical associations that have a CME requirement in effect. Although the figure is the same for the two years, the 1977 report includes only those state associations that have implemented the program. The state medical associations that have made a policy decision concerning CME requirements are as follows (those with an asterisk have implemented CME as a condition of membership): Alabama, Arizona*, California, District of Columbia*, Florida*, Kansas*, Maine*, Massachusetts*, Minnesota*, Montana*, New Jersey*, New York*, North Carolina*, Oregon*, Pennsylvania*, South Dakota*, and Vermont*.
