Abstract
Estimated bias correction factors αG and αS for the coefficient of skewness and standard deviation of the log Pearson 3 distribution are presented. In contrast to similar results for other distributions commonly used in water resource applications, both αG and αS depend on the coefficient of variation Cv as well as the skew coefficient γ. The αG is not monotonie with γ for some values of Cv, and both αG and αS may assume values less than unity, unlike other commonly used distributions. It is shown that some of these differences are attributable to the peculiar forms which the probability density function of the log Pearson 3 distribution may assume.Supplement (tables) is available with entire article on microfiche.
