Abstract
The environment around Li in a glass has been studied by neutron scattering with isotopic substitution of Li and reverse Monte Carlo modeling. Li atoms are found in distorted tetrahedral sites which are edge-linked with tetrahedra and with a first Li-Li distance near 5 Å. The increase in the activation energy for ionic conduction from the aluminosilicate to the silicate glasses is explained by the structural differences.
