Abstract
Ovaries from rabbits undergoing Friedman tests were processed in neotetrazolium with succinate. An insoluble formazan was formed by reduction of the neotetrazolium at sites of succinic dehydrogenase activity. Ovaries from all rabbits revealed diffuse formazan deposition (blue-black granules) through the stroma, more about the vessels, with heavier deposition in the follicle cells of the ova. Numerous cystic follicles in the Friedman-negative ova had distinct deposition of formazan granules in their granulosa cells. In Friedman-positive ovaries, the cell layers of the corpora hemorrhagica and corpora lutea contained much heavier deposits with larger granules than seen elsewhere. The pattern and degree of formazan deposition corresponded to areas of cellular proliferation. Keywords
