Alternative Methods in Upland Gamebird Food Analysis

Abstract
Comparisons are made on the two current statistical procedures used in obtaining final data in gamebird food studies. In the one method, designated as aggregate percentage, percentages obtained for different food items in each bird are summed and averaged to produce final figures. In the other method, aggregate volume, volumes measured in ml. are recorded for the various food items in each bird and these measurements (rather than percentages) are added and averaged. The latter procedure is based on actual or absolute quantities while the other deals with relative quantities. Differences in results of the 2 methods are often small but, for reasons given, the aggregate volume system appears better and justifies its prevalence.
