CO(diX 1Σ+) fluorescence from photodissociation of CO2 by 923 Å photons

Abstract
CO(d 3ΔiX 1Σ+) fluorescence has been observed from photodissociation of CO2. A NIV line emission source at 923.2 Å provided the primary photons. The absolute cross section for production of the CO(dX) fluorescence was found to be 0.49±0.25 Mb. Relative band intensities for the dv=3X bands have been obtained which indicate that the electronic transition moment has a parabolic dependence on the r centroid. Branching ratios for dX to da are estimated to be 0.076 for transitions from dv=3 and 0.021 from dv=2. No dv=1X fluorescence was observed.
