Abstract
The interplay between the bulk properties of the plasma and the nonlinear particle heating due to resonance absorption is analyzed. It is shown that the dependence of the heating on the initial energy with which particles enter the heating region provides a key to understanding the formation of the time-averaged distribution. Keywords
