URINARY EXCRETION OF OESTRIN ADMINISTERED UNDER EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS AND AFTER THE MENOPAUSE

Abstract
Intramusc. injection of known doses of keto-hydroxyestrin into subjects, either ovariectomized or subsequent to the onset of menopause, and detn. of the excretion of the hormone into the urine, showed that only a small proportion of the estrin could be recovered from the urine. A proportion of this excreted hormone was not extractable by ether (applicable also to estrin excreted in normal pregnancy). The blood of injected subjects contained less than 1 mouse unit of estrin in 40 cc. Incidentally, it was established that substantial amts. of estrin may be excreted in the urine even 18 yrs. after the menopause.
