Abstract
A linear parametrization of the equation of state near the critical point, proposed by Schofield, is tested. From the available experimental data in the critical regions of a number of magnets (Cr, Ni, Gd) and fluids (, Xe, ) we find evidence of systematic deviations from an assumption of linearity.
