Abstract
The adequacy of spray coverage on many aerial control projects is determined by sampling the spray deposit at ground level with dyed oil-sensitive cards. It has been assumed that the deposit in gallons per acre on these cards can also be used to predict spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens), mortality. A study was conducted, using data from three spray projects, to determine if budworm mortality can be predicted in this way. It was found that no meaningful prediction can be made regardless of whether deposit is expressed in estimated gallons per acre or mean number of spray drops per unit area of card surface.
