Abstract
Arguments are put forward to suggest that a double hypernucleus event, recently reported by Aoki et al. as either or , should be interpreted as . It is proposed that the formation of occurs sequentially via an intermediate excited state of , which decays by proton emission: , . Moreover, it is shown that particular excited states are favored in the hyperon capture process. The binding energy of the two hyperons in is MeV, corresponding to an attractive matrix element MeV, in good agreement with values of obtained from previous events.
