Abstract
Since caronamide (4''-carboxy-phenylmethanesulfonanilide) has been found to inhibit the renal tubular excretion of penicillin and thus increase plasma penicillin conc. its effect on the treatment of pneumococcus and typhoid infections in mice was studied. Oral admn. of caronamide enhanced the therapeutic effect of intramusc. penicillin 6-16 X in the pneumococcus expts. and approximately 4 X in the trials with Eberthella typhosa. Keywords
