Abstract
A review. Among topics discussed are the relation of cholesterol in the food and in various states of nutrition to the amount in the blood, tissues and bile, the question of cholesterol synthesis and destruction, the relation of organs and cells to its metabolism, and its possible endocrine regulation. In addition, the relation of cholesterol to blood formation and blood destruction and to secondary and so-called hemolytic anemia is discussed, as the organs participating in the cholesterol metabolism seem to be intimately related to the hematopoietic organs. Various factors, which may influence the cholesterol level of the blood, are pointed out. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
