Abstract
Activated sludges can remove glucose biologically from solns. at very rapid rates; glucose-acclimated sludges can take up 1000 p.p.m. in 11/2 hrs. For natural activated sludges the percentage of the glucose removed that is actually oxidized as measured by both O2 utilization and CO2 production varies from 4-24% after 11/2 hrs. of aeration to 11.3-31.8% after 24 hrs. For pure-culture zoogleal sludges the percentage oxidized is higher: 31% after 1This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
