Abstract
Guidelines are suggested for synthesizing and testing musical microstructure, especially as applied to the composer's pulse. It is proposed that research in music microstructure use research equipment and acoustic methods not less stringent than those used for speech research. Musical considerations are discussed for how to test different parts of musical pieces appropriately. Keywords
