Abstract
GREER1 , 2 has demonstrated that administration of thyroid hormone to patients with spontaneous hyperthyroidism fails to suppress the uptake of radioactive iodine. This is in contrast to the usual marked suppression that occurs in normal persons and in most patients with nontoxic goiters.Morgans, Oldham and Trotter3 found that the administration of thyroxine to patients who had recovered from thyrotoxicosis after surgical treatment, and in 4 cases after methylthiouracil treatment, suppressed iodine uptake, neck-thigh ratios being used as a means of estimating uptake.Werner,4 using 75 microgm. of tri-iodothyronine daily for seven days to suppress the thyroid gland, has found that . . .
