Abstract
N,N-diallylaniline (nna) and 2,6-diallylaniline (2,6aa) form complexes with Pt(II) of the formula PtCl2(nna) and PtCl2(2,6aa). In the first complex the ligand is co-ordinated through the two double bonds, in the second it is co-ordinated through the nitrogen atom and one of the double bonds. Heating of PtCl2(2,6aa) in refluxing toluene causes rearrangement of the ligand (2,6aa) which isomerizes first to a propenyl derivative and then gives cyclization with C-N bond formation affording 1,2,4,5-tetrahydro-2,4-dimethyl-pyrrolo[3,2,1-h,i] indole. NaHCO3 in THF causes isomerization of the allyl groups of the coordinated ligand (2,6aa) to propenyl at room temperature.
