Alcoholism and the Chemically Dependent Family

Abstract
At least 22 million persons have been raised in alcoholic and drug addicted homes. Many studies have documented the relationships that exist between being raised in such an environment and a variety of emotional and deviant characteristics. Individuals raised in such homes tend to have low self-esteem and substantial suppressed anger and exhibit a variety of acting out behaviors that may result in contact with the criminal justice system. This study investigates differences in family variables between adult felons on probation from alcoholic homes and those from non-alcoholic homes. Significant differences were found in the areas of family violence, abuse, delinquency, running away, and addiction.
