Abstract
The effect of addition of Ca in the diet on formation of urinary calculi was studied in rats. Stone formation was induced by the implantation into the bladder of a Zn disk. The experiments showed that the addition of calcium lactate to the diet inhibited the formation of calculi. Regarding the mechanism the authors suggest that additional Ca in the diet impairs absorption of phosphate and results in phosphate content of the urine below a critical level. Keywords
