Abstract
Among a group of 182 randomly selected women, ABO hemagglutinins were found more frequently and generally in higher titer in the uterine cervical secretions of women of blood type O than of women of type A or B. In order to facilitate testing procedures, the mucoid specimens were treated with a neuraminidase-containing extract of Clostridium perfringens to decrease the viscosity. There was no correlation found between the presence of the cervical antibody, on the one hand, and serum antibody titer, phase of menstrual cycle, or secretor type, on the other. The hemagglutinins, however, were found more than twice as often among 41 women of all blood groups from each of whom multiple specimens were obtained. These findings extend the data which suggest that ABO selection at the gametic level is a factor in explaining the deficiency of certain types of offspring in ABO incompatible matings. Keywords
