Abstract
Interferon (INF) alpha was detected in the serum of children with varicella. The serum IFN was demonstrated in the acute phase of varicella and became negative 7 days after the onset of rash. Serum IFN was detected during the incubation period in two patients tested before the onset of rash. Some correlation was shown between the positive rate of circulating IFN and the severity of illness. Keywords
