Abstract
84 adult male albino Wistar rats overtrained on 3 discrete visual discrimination problems underwent bilateral cortical or subcortical lesions, and were tested for retention. 12 Ss showed defective retention of all 3 visual problems. Their lesions were confined either to the occipital cortex, posterior thalamus, or ventral midbrain. Findings provide evidence for a highly localized cortico-subcortical system mediating visual discrimination habits in the rodent. (62 ref.)
