Investigations on the nature of haemopoietin, the anti-anaemic principle in hog's stomach

Abstract
The effect of pH on the production of non-protein N in the interaction of beef muscle globulin and caseinogen with pepsin and prepns. of hog''s stomach is descr. The effect of the substrate conc. on hydrolysis of caseinogen by these preps. is in accord with the theory of Michaelis and Menten for the action of pepsin and with Haldane''s modification of the theory for an inhibited reaction in the case of the stomach fraction P5(ii). The Michaelis constant for the former reaction is 02% caseinogen; for the latter, the constants K1 and K2 have the values 0.4 and 17.8 mg. N per ml. respectively.
