Relation between Adrenal and Pituitary Glands and Urinary Excretion of Neutral Reducing Lipids in the Rat.

Abstract
A modification of the procedure of Heard and. Sobel for the detn. of neutral reducing lipids (NRL) was applied to the urine of rats in order to determine adrenal cortical activity. The normal excretion averaged 61.2 [mu]g./day. Adrenalectomy decreased the excretion of this material to 29 [mu]g./day. Neither ACTH, growth hormone, nor anterior pituitary powder increased NRL excretion. Posterior pituitary powder increased the excretion 3-fold. This response was considerably diminished in adrenalectomized rats.
