Abstract
We discuss a semiclassical theory of vibrational excitation in low‐energy collisions for the case that the interaction depends only weakly on vibrational coordinate and the process is strongly forbidden, classically, in the sense of Miller and Marcus. We argue that this may be the interesting case for purposes of extracting information, from differential cross sections, on the vibrational coordinate dependence of intermolecular potentials. Keywords
