Abstract
The expts. consisted of groups of 4 rats: 1, intact rat; 2, rat with one kidney removed; 3, thyroidectomized rat; 4, thyroidectomized rat with one kidney removed. Twelve such groups of o rats and 12 groups of [male] rats were studied. Kidneys were weighed at death 21 to 88 days after nephrectomy and 32-125 days after thyroidectomy. Thyroidectomy reduced the wt. of kidneys but did not interfere with compensatory hypertrophy of the 2d kidney after removal of the first. Therefore, the decrease in pituitary acidophils consequent upon thyroidectomy did not prevent compensatory growth of the kidney. Keywords
