Abstract
38 aerobic sporeforming bacilli were studied. Bacillus niger produced a black pigment only upon media which contained free or metabolically available tyrosine. B. aterrimus produced pigment only in presence of carbohydrates. B. tyrosinogenes and B. nigrificans were found to be synonymous with B. aterrimus. B. betanigrificans was culturally distinct from any of the above, producing gas on carbohydrates and requiring metallic iron for pigmentation. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
