Abstract
The absorption spectra of Zn1-xMnxS with x=0.06, 0.20 and 0.40 were investigated. Five absorption bands were observed which are attributed to the transitions 6A1 to 4T1, 4T2, 4A1+4E, 4T2, 4E. The temperature and pressure dependence of the bands were recorded. The room temperature pressure shifts are consistently explained by a change of the Racah parameter dB/dP and crystal-field splitting d(10Dq)/dP with pressure. It was found that adB/da is a constant in the whole series of Zn1-xMnxTe, Zn1-xMnxSe and Zn1-xMnxS with a value of about 95 meV.Keywords
