Abstract
Two suggestions are put forward for avoiding numerical difficulties encountered in the treatment of optically thick media by analytical methods such as Lie series. One is the usual procedure of subdividing a single zone into several subzones. The use of Lie series in connection with this formalism is described. The second method allows a coarser subdivision of a given zone but is restricted to plane geometry. Keywords
