Abstract
A critical reassessment is undertaken of local research on Caledonian tectonics and metamorphism in Skye and nearby Lochcarronside. This is extended to cover related investigations by Read on dislocation-metamorphism in Sutherland. Clough’s amazing tectonic discoveries are confirmed, as also his finding that Moine metamorphism must be Caledonian in date unless the main dislocation-metamorphism that accompanies the Moine Thrust in Skye is itself pre-Caledonian. The author thinks this last possibility so remote that he follows Peach in accepting a Caledonian date for Moine metamorphism. Keywords
