Abstract
Structural fractions have been isolated from Azotobacter vinelandii by differential centrifugation of cell extracts. Studies of the localization of enzymes in these subcellular constituents indicate that the succinic dehydrogenase and the cytochrome, malic and reduced diphosphopyridine nucleotide oxidases are all bound to the cell particles. Aconitase, isocitric dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutaric oxidase and possibly fumarase function in non-granular regions of the bacterial cell. The results suggest that the catalysis of the tricarboxylic acid cycle in the azotobacter requires granular and ground plasmic enzymes while the electron transport is associated only with the particles. Keywords
