Abstract
The late-flowering tetraploid red clover ‘Grasslands 4706’, which has greater DM production and persistence than ‘Grasslands Turoa’ Montgomery red clover, has been developed. The tetraploid has better ability than the diploid to overwinter, which may be related to greater total available carbohydrate reserves. The ability of the tetraploid to take up certain major elements in greater amounts than the diploid may be of advantage on some soil types and also in animal health.
