Abstract
This paper considers the problem of determining the optimal number of redundancies at various stages of a system to maximize the system reliability within the resources available. A least square formulation, considered useful for such problem, is presented and the solution technique using the concepts of sequential simplex pattern search is presented. A study has been made leading to the recommendation of proper values of the various factors involved in such a solution technique. The approach presented is illustrated through an exampleKeywords
