Abstract
The backscattering cross section of colinear arrays of thin dipoles at normal incidence has been derived using the variational method. It was found advantageous to use the variational principle in its scale-dependent form, since the extremum of the variational functional does not depend on the scales of the currents. The special case of the two dipole array is computed using the derived formula. The interaction integral of two dipoles is integrated giving a result is closed form. In spite of the crudeness of the trial functions used, the results appear in good agreement with the experimental data. These were taken on a Doppler modulated synchronous detection system at 3000 Mc/sec.This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
