Abstract
Identification of the pelagic eggs of T. discaudatus was established by hatching larvae from eggs collected from the plankton and comparing these to the larvae hatched from eggs definitely known to have been spawned by the species in cultures. The eggs are deposited separately and are unique in that they are contained in a case especially adapted for flotation by the development (after deposi- tion) of a flat, thin disc girding the egg. The nauplius stages I-VI (described and figured) recall the larvae of Acartia longiremis and A. bifilosa. The copepodid stages follow the regular order of development and the asymmetry so characteristic of the adult does not appear before the 4th stage and remains slight till the 6th or adult stage. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
