Abstract
The normal 24-hr. excretion of glucuronic acid in rabbit urine maintained on a diet of Purina rabbit chow, fresh carrots and cabbage ranged from 25 to 60 mg. Following intraven. doses of Na penicillin varying from 50,000 to 200,000 Oxf. units, a marked increase in glucuronic acid at 24 hrs. was noted. The treated animals gradually returned to normal. Some penicillin probably conjugated with glucuronic acid and the quant. detn. of this acid in urine may be useful to detect the presence and adsorption of penicillin. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
