Abstract
A case history is reported to caution against the recommendation that a nonparticulate diet be permitted in labour unless participants are not candidates for regional analgesia. A woman was admitted to Intensive Care with Mendelson syndrome. She had been given a meal in early labour, delivered vaginally with epidural analgesia then aspirated stomach contents. Oral intake during labour may continue to be a risk factor for pulmonary aspiration. Keywords
