Abstract
By means of a tunable dye laser and a long cylindrical absorption cell, the Knudsen Cosine Law was verified for the desorption of Na atoms from a glass surface. At the same time, the atoms were shown to have a Maxwellian velocity distribution. The overall velocity resolution exceeds that of previous measurements. Keywords
