Abstract
The red chromogenic halophilic rod-shaped bacteria, such as Serratia salinaria (Harrison and Kennedy) Bergey et al., and Serratia cutirubra Lochhead, differ with respect to morphology and physiology from organisms properly placed in the genus Serratia, which latter is appropriately included in the family Enterobacteriaceae. The marine origin of the red halophiles, their polar flagella arrangement and their physiology indicate that they should be placed in the genus Pseudomonas rather than in Serratia. The form isolated by the writer is more correctly named Pseudomonas cutirubra comb. nov. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
