Abstract
Since previous studies had indicated that the maximum renotrophic and androgenic properties of steroids implanted as pellets in castrated mice were dependent on the nature of the chemical groups of the molecule, a series of C-19 steroids with polar groups only in the 3 or 17 position were studied. All of these mono-substituted steroids demonstrated no solubility or only a trace in the tissue fluids and also no biological activity. Comparison of the effect of these and previously studied steroids on the body wt. indicated that many steroids which had only trace or small renotrophic and androgenic effects were able to appreciably increase the body wt. of the mice. Keywords
